The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the elevation of Judicial Officer Mohammad Yousuf Wani as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

A resolution passed by collegium comprising Chief Justice Dhananjaya Y Chandrachud along with Justices Sanjiv Khanna and B R Gavai reads,

“Having regard to the material on record and all relevant factors, the Collegium is of the considered view that Shri Mohammad Yousuf Wani is fit and suitable for being appointed as a Judge of the High Court for Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh”.

This decision comes after careful consideration of a proposal from the High Court Collegium and consultations with judges familiar with the region's judicial affairs. Mr. Wani, a judicial officer with a distinguished career spanning over 26 years, has consistently received high marks in his annual evaluations and enjoys a strong reputation for integrity and professionalism.

“Nothing adverse has come to notice with regard to his integrity. The Annual Confidential Reports of the officer are consistently of a high order. The consultee-judges have concurrently given a positive opinion about his suitability for appointment as a Judge of the High Court”, the resolution records.

While the Collegium acknowledged a representation from a senior judicial officer seeking elevation, they concurred with the High Court Collegium's reasoning for not recommending her.
