Centre Nominates Justice S Muralidhar & 8 Others As Members To NALSA

The Central Government, in consultation with the Chief Justice of India, has nominated former Dr.Justice S Muralidhar, former Orissa High Court Chief Justice, as a Member to the National Legal Services Authority.

The Centre has also nominated the following persons as NALSA Members :

1. Senior Advocate Siddharth Agarwal.

2. Justice Arun Palli, judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court

3. Senior Advocate Meenakshi Arora.

4. Dr. Mrinal Satish, Professor of Law, National Law School of India University, Bangalore.

5. Senior Advocate Siddharth Luthra

6. Senior Advocate Manan Kumar Mishra, Chairman of the Bar Council of India

7. Professor Debasish Basu, Professor and Head, Department of Psychiatry, PGI, Chandigarh.

8. Profesor Asha Bajpai, Founder Dean, School of Law, Tata Institute of Social Sciences.

NALSA is created as per the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 to provide free and competent legal services to the weaker sections of the society. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud is the Patron-in-Chief of the NALSA and Supreme Court judge Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul is its Executive Chairperson.

As per Section 3, the Centre, in consultation with the CJI, can nominate members to the NALSA.
