The Supreme Court on Thursday asked a person, who alleged that he was being threatened and cajoled by the Tamil Nadu State officials in relation to the Karur stampede, to approach the Central Bureau of Investigation.

A bench comprising Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice Vijay Bishnoi was hearing an application filed by S. Prabhakaran, family member of a person who died in the stampede which occured in Karur during a rally by actor Vijay's political party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The application was taken up by the bench after an oral mention by Advocate Balaji Srinivasan.

Allowing the petitioner to approach the CBI, the bench disposed of the application. It did not express anything on the merits of the matter.

"It is contended that the petitioner has been threatened and cajoled by the officials of the State. However, in this regard, it is suffice to say that the petitioner may apply to the Central Bureau of Investigation. Except to say the same, at present, no further orders are required to be passed on the interlocutory applications," the bench recorded in its order.

On October 13, the Supreme Court had transferred the investigation in the Karur stampede case to the CBI and appointed a supervisory committee led by former SC Judge Ajay Rastogi to monitor the probe.
