The Central Government has notified the elevation of three High Court Judges to the Supreme Court.
They are :
1) Justice N V Anjaria, Chief Justice of the Karnataka High Court. Parent HC : Gujarat
2) Justice Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court. Parent HC : Rajasthan
3) Justice Atil S Chandurkar, Bombay High Court.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal said in a post on X, "In exercise of the powers conferred by the Constitution of India, the President, after consultation with Chief Justice of India, is pleased to appoint S/Shri Justices (i) N.V. Anjaria, Chief Justice, High Court of Karnataka, (ii) Vijay Bishnoi, Chief Justice, High Court of Gauhati and (iii) A.S. Chandurkar, Judge, High Court of Bombay as Judges of the Supreme Court of India."
The Supreme Court Collegium had recommended their elevation on May 26.
With these appointments, the Supreme Court is back to its full strength of 34 judges. The Court will have one more vacancy soon with the retirement of Justice Bela M Trivedi on June 9.
Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia is the next judge set to retire (August 9), followed by CJI BR Gavai (November 23).
